UKPIK AND ARVIK

Project description

  • NAME : Ukpik and Arvik
  • BOAT TYPE : Tugboats
  • DELIVERY : 2019
  • SERVICES USED : Architecture | Construction

Ukpik and Arvik are two identical tugs custom designed to pull barges in the Arctic Ocean, largely for the purpose of delivering goods to northern villages.

A breath of fresh air for an aging fleet

To compensate for its aging fleet, our client Umialarik Transportation Inc. entrusted us with the construction of six new vessels similar to the Qimmiq and Ukaliq , which were delivered two years prior. Launched in 2019, Ukpik (“snowy owl”) and Arvik (“Greenland whale”) were delivered one year ahead of the Tuktu, Qavvik, Uugaq, and Tulugaq .

They need to travel easily on rivers, so they were given a flat bottom, a shallow draft, and very powerful motors. This makes them extremely agile and, above all, very reliable when sailing in strong currents.
